No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing various card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little bit and moved to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and do not win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on poker.

The actual advancement in his abilities happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would frequently compete against each other. He was able to access several of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker arena today. Howard headed to Sin City in 1993 and competed in money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
