NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
