Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player.
