Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player.
