Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
