Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
