Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
