NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
