Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
