The Background of Poker Chips

Casino chips have been made from a varied range of materials in an almost endless assortment of styles since the birth of gambling and the requirement to keep track of winnings. The most commonly seen materials employed at present in the creation of new poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the group, have been made in the US since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any small valuable item imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts sometimes employed jagged gold pieces as well as chips – primarily made of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip designs started to play a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with ridges to hold them neatly stacked together.

There is no doubt that poker has grown constantly in popularity since its beginnings in the 1800s. With the explosive advancement of net gaming and specialty television shows, community interest in poker has feed the fire a lot faster than ever before. Many people are first introduced to poker by television showssuch as "Celebrity Poker" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and many will play their initial hands on the web. Despite online poker’s rise, not much replaces the feeling of mixing heavy poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the center of a poker table, or creating tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a winning hand.
