Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
